Wrapping up Nerax
So, I only made it to one more session of Nerax, but it was a good time overall. Tons of great beer, as usual, not enough time to try everything I wanted to.
The beers I managed to try, with occasional notes:
Adnam's Bitter
Fuller's ESB
Always one of my favorites. More than once, I've spent an entire Nerax session nursing pints of this.
Ridgeway IPA
Dry, tasty. Slight vegetal flavor, but not objectionable.
Young's Special London Ale
Kelburn Dark Moor
Franconia Notch Brewing Company, Grail Pale Ale (I think)
Pale, complex and well-balanced. Showcases the hops without being overwhelming. One of the nicest things about cask-conditioned beer in general is how much more complex the layers of flavor are, and this is a terrific example.
Rock Bottom Brewing Company, Boston Fog Lager
A cask conditioned steam (oops, I mean "California Common") beer - I'm intrigued. Some say that steam beer is the only original american beer style, originating in California. Hmm... not so good. There are some prominent off-flavors in this one. I had to dump it. Happens to everybody once in a while.
People's Pint, Pipa Red
Yummy.
Young's Bitter
Good English beer. At 1037 gravity, this has a good balance of malt and hops, and the alchohol is not really part of the flavor profile. This is a beer you can drink all night. But I couldn't, it was just about gone.
And then, so was I.
